CONSTRUCTION - Every mesquite product Curtis creates is meant to reflect the beauty of nature’s creation with all the naturally occurring characteristics of the original piece of wood. Whether it is a more traditional shape or one that does not resemble the time-tested shapes seen in bowls and vases in stores and art galleries, each piece is a true original never to be duplicated. Each will feel like a piece of fine furniture since it is sanded to perfection and coated with oil-based polyurethane. The only maintenance required is an occasional dusting. It is recommended that water never be stored in mesquite bowls and vases since it may migrate to the surface and damage the finish. Mesquite is a long-lived wood that can last many years if properly cared for. If one desires to place cut flowers in a mesquite vase it is recommended that a wet towel be used to nurture the stem with a plastic wrap over this to seal the moisture in. This method will protect the dried wood. Test tubes and plastic tubes may be suitable for holding the water for the cut flower.. Once mesquite lumber is used to make a functional object such as furniture or a turned object, it’s beauty is unrivaled by any north American wood and few woods throughout the world can compete with mesquite for attractiveness, hardness and stability. by Curtis Alston Laudermilk |
